Welcome to the newest member of my camera family: the RED Komodo-X. I chose the Nikon Z-mount version because it has the absolute shallowest flange distance, closer to the sensor than the Sony E-mount which means I can adapt my E-mount lenses to the Komodo-X!

Today’s office. Komodo-X + anamorphic + music video. November 8, 2025, Nashville.

I pulled the trigger on my KX and full Tilta kit at B&H on November 6, received it November 8, and immediately put it to work November 9 to film Bernie Leadon’s Too Late to be Cool music video in Nashville. A few days later I was using it to help film “Unseen Voices” in Franklin, TN, for Neon World Media and producer Tim Romero.

The Komodo-X has quickly proven to be my most favorite cinema camera I have personally owned.

Metabones PL—Z mount T CINE SPEED booster ULTRA 0.71x

December 5, 2025 — I might be the only person in North America who owns one of these: a Metabones PL—Z mount T CINE SPEED booster ULTRA 0.71x. Thank you to B&H for making this available by adding it to your website for me so it was easier, and half the cost, than ordering it through Metabones directly. I’ve been a B&H customer with over 100 orders since 2003 and they continue to take good care of me. Thanks to FedEx for braving the cold to quickly get this unique package to me.

I now have Metabones PL-mount Speed Boosters for both RED cameras in RF and Z, along with standard PL mounts for when I want the S35 look or need to use lenses that have deeper rear elements that won’t clear the Speed Boosters, such as my Viltrox EPIC anamorphics.

I hope everyone has a Merry Christmas. 🎄
