Buck’n Crazy: “Heartbreak Song”

Director/DP/Editor/Colorist: Jason R. Johnston
Shot on Sony PXW-FS7 Mark II with Sirui anamorphic lenses in 1.5 days.

I am proud that the music film I directed for Heartbreak Song is a production that looks really big, but was actually created with a very small budget on a very tight 1 day schedule. The crew was only 3 people – myself, Brenda the AD, and Jacqueline the stylist – but we managed to give the film huge production value by having a great band, at a great location, with great extras who brought their huge trucks for the “tailgate” and volunteered to monitor our generator that kept the place lit. I used an inexpensive anamorphic lens on my FS7 camera to achieve an extremely cinematic look, then edited the film in Final Cut Pro and graded it with Color Finale Pro. It premiered on social media with fantastic success.
