3-Day Week Pricing Model
A 3-Day Week pricing model gives clients incentive to rent my equipment for longer periods since their savings increases the longer they rent from me. Equipment rentals have the benefit of 3-day week pricing, but I – as hired crew – do not. The following examples are according to my vanilla rate card, without having discussed any project or negotiated a budget. Of course I’m always willing to negotiate my pricing for jobs of every size and budget.
Let’s say I charge $500 per day as a cinematographer, so a 5 day job would be billed as $2,500 for my services. The job needs equipment, so I rent my equipment to the job at a rate of $1,000 per day. But instead of charging $5,000 for a 5 day job, I use the 3-Day Week pricing model which will allow the client to rent my equipment for 5 days but only be billed for 3 days. Therefore, the equipment charge for a 3-Day Week is only $3,000 for 5 days. Total cost for me and the equipment? Only $5,500 for 5 days.
What about a job that’s Monday-Sunday? As cinematographer, my daily rate stands at $3,500 for 7 days of work. So, a full 7-day week using the 3-Day Week pricing model is $6,500. 7 days of hire for me, plus 7 days for equipment which is billed at only 3 days. The equipment is out for 7 days — picked up Monday morning and returned Sunday evening — but it’s only billed for 3 days at $3,000 total. If I billed without a “3-day week” model, that same 7-day week would cost $10,500. The 3-Day Week pricing model gives my clients a savings of $4,000.
What if the rental goes past 7 days? Let’s say the client needs the equipment for later than 9 PM on the last day so they have to return the equipment the next day? They have to pay for the extra day; billed as one 3-day week plus one day.
Weekend Rate
Saturday and Sunday, together, are billed as a single day. For weekend rate: client may pick up rental items Saturday morning, then return them Sunday evening.
Pick Ups and Returns
For the PICK UP DATE: items may be checked out after 7 AM.
For the RETURN DATE: items must be checked in before 9 PM or client will be billed for an extra day.
Shipping
Equipment may be shipped out 1 day before the pick up date for only the cost of shipping.
Equipment may be received via return shipping 1 day after the return date for no extra rental charge.
