The music video for norteño band Grupo Vidal’s latest single, Que Sepan Todos, is released today. Directed by veteran film-maker Jason R. Johnston, the music video was shot on the Blackmagic Cinema Camera 2.5K with Canon lenses.

“Using the camera is a real joy,” said Johnston. “It’s image is so clean. Very filmic.” The video was shot in two hours on location at Edinburg recording studio Sound of Rain. “Because storage is an issue, we’re shooting with the camera’s ProRes codec which means we’re only using 1080p High Definition and not the camera’s capable 2.5K resolution, but there’s not many drawbacks to ProRes, especially when shooting in Log as we are today. We’ll then push the colors into grayscale in post.”

Post production was handled at Fifty Oars with the latest version of Final Cut Pro X. “The Blackmagic can capture a lot of information in the image,” said Johnston, “and we can use that in post to give the music video that nicely textured black and white image the client wants. I’m very excited. I think the video looks great!”
